Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid season, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.
Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.
Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.
However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair traded break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
He rescued 4 early break points in a close third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
