Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within the city.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
